Contemporary Science Film Festival (Russian abbreviation FANK) brings together scientific documentaries, modern science theater, science shows and scientific and technical workshops for children, among others, lectures, discussions and career counseling meetings with scientists and representatives of creative professions. Unlike traditional festivals, CSFF is not tied to a specific time or place, but takes place throughout the year in universities, schools, libraries, culture and educational institutions in different cities.

BREAD: AN EVERYDAY MIRACLE

Once merely a basic foodstuff, bread has now become a brand-name product with ever more varieties and suppliers. But do we know what we are actually eating every day? The film BREAD: AN EVERYDAY MIRACLE takes us on an enlightening journey into the world of bread and its production today. We meet traditional artisan bakers and cereal farmers who can vouch for quality and sustainable ingredients. Director Harald Friedl also shows us the baking factories of transnational food corporations, who go to great technological lengths on their mission to recreate authentic taste. Industrially produced bread is fast becoming an artificial product. How can the craft of baking survive? And what will the bread of the future be like?

WOOD | GAME-CHANGERS UNDERCOVER

Illegal logging is a global business worth billions. Alexander von Bismarck, descendant of the Iron Chancellor and head of the Environmental Investigation Agency in Washington D.C., successfully pursues the machinations of the timber mafia worldwide – with dyed hair, a concealed camera and sound recording equipment. His primary concern isn't to expose a scandalous situation, but rather to promote a change in the consciousness of politics and civil society and to bring about a new code of conduct for the global economy and consumers. WOOD is an environmental thriller that draws its tension from sad everyday reality.
